"Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine "what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will. - George Bernard Shaw
PoCoMo Youth Services Society was established in 1992 by a group of caring community citizens led by Diane Thorne under the name PoCoMo Teen Centre Society. The society’s original mandate was the development and implementation of freestanding teen centers in each of the three Tri-City communities of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody. (The name PoCoMo is an abbreviation of the three municipalities.) In 1997 PoCoMo broadened its mandate (and changed its name) to include facilitating the development of programs and services aimed at creating opportunities for youth to have meaningful involvement in the community.
Building on the original vision, PoCoMo Youth Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing outreach to youth in our community. PoCoMo takes pride in having identified a gap in youth outreach services and committing to minimize that gap. Over time we have had success through our innovative and award-winning programs, predominantly Project Reach Out; a multi-service mobile drop-in centre and outreach program. Noticeably, Project Reach Out meets youth where they are at, instead of waiting for them search for resources on their own, in hopes of connecting even with those youth identified as marginalized or at-risk. As we continue to grow, PoCoMo is aligns its efforts toward a vision in which there are similar programs for youth in every community and one in which all youth have the resources they need to reach their full potential.
